Municipal heat planning - digital planning process

The VDI conference "Digital municipal heat planning" reflects the current status of the implementation of heat planning from the perspective of all stakeholders involved. Experts from engineering firms, software companies, energy suppliers and local authorities will come together and report on their experiences of working together. We will also discuss with representatives of the chimney sweep trade, associations and applied research how digital planning processes can be simplified and standardized so that the heating transition can succeed for society as a whole.

Data as an indispensable basis for municipal heating planning

The Heat Planning and Decarbonization of Heating Networks Act (WPG) came into force on 1 January 2024. The WPG requires large municipalities to draw up a municipal heating plan by June 30, 2026 and smaller municipalities by June 30, 2028, which provides a comprehensive overview and insight into the heat supply in the areas under consideration. In view of the tight schedule, there is an acute need for action in the municipalities. Without integrated, digital planning processes, municipal heating plans can hardly be created on time - this can only be achieved through good cooperation between municipalities, energy suppliers and engineering firms and, not to forget, the chimney sweep trade and citizens.

The VDI conference "Municipal heating planning - digital planning processes" brings together the most important players and shows how digital tools and instruments can help in the creation of municipal heating planning, from planning to implementation.

You can look forward to exciting specialist presentations with many application examples and specific practical assistance on these key topics:

  • Data bases and data procurement
  • Digital tools, methods and tool chains
  • Legal framework conditions and requirements
  • Best practice from the perspective of local authorities and energy suppliers
  • Harmonization and standardization of heat planning
  • Financing and participation opportunities

As part of the conference, Dr. Markus Duchon, Head of Architectures and Services for Critical Infrastructures at fortiss, will give a presentation on "Ontologies in heat planning - Project NEED" (working title) on the morning of the first day of the conference (Tuesday, 26 November 2024) within the session "Municipal heat planning - data basis and data procurement".
