The BayernLabs are an initiative of the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Home Affairs and are designed as open centers for digital knowledge education. A total of 13 modern IT labs centered around the topic of digitization are planned throughout Bavaria to build a bridge into the fast-paced and complex IT world, especially in rural regions. The free facilities serve as an important networking partner in the region and are aimed at municipalities, district offices, schools, associations and clubs, as well as for the business community. As showcases for digital innovations, they offer state-of-the-art technology for a broad general public to look at, touch and try out, thus becoming an important location factor.

Discovering innovations in the digital world on site
At the opening of the eleventh BayernLab on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 in Starnberg, Albert Füracker, Minister of Finance and Home Affairs, stated with conviction: "Digitization has long been an integral part of our everyday professional and private lives, and at the same time is continuously changing our lives. At the new BayernLab in Starnberg, visitors can experience and explore for themselves the possibilities that digital progress already offers today. Much of it sounds like science fiction, but it is already reality."
On a total area of around 340 m², the latest trends and applications can be actively tried out at BayernLab Starnberg. For example, visitors can now immerse themselves in virtual worlds on a virtual reality platform, gain realistic flight experience on a drone simulator or test a 3D printer. A modern video conferencing system allows visitors to try out networked working. Among other things, an interactive 84-inch touch monitor with whiteboard function is available for this purpose, enabling modern office communication and teamwork at different locations.
BayernLab also presents topics such as data protection and data security on the Internet and modern administrative services. Other interesting exhibits provide interesting information on broadband expansion and BayernWLAN. Lectures, workshops and a wide range of online offerings on the topics of technology and digitization round out the offerings. BayernLab also offers free BayernWLAN and a barrier-free guest workstation.
