IRISS

Intuitive Robot Programming and Integration of Standardized Control Interfaces

IRISS

The goal of the IRISS project is to facilitate the integration of industrial robots in SMEs. For this purpose, we develop an intuitive user interface for the skill-based programming of robot systems. The underlying implementation follows standardized skill models so that it can be reused on different systems via a shared skill library.

Project description

Our focus here is to support different user roles with varying levels of expertise in robotics, in order to provide production engineers with a detailed graphical user interface (GUI), while workers are provided with a simplified view for intuitive use and parameterization of skills. In addition, these user interfaces support diverse robot systems from different manufacturers by adapting their interfaces with OPC UA skills and making them available to the instruction environment in a standardized way.

Research contribution

fortiss develops semantic description languages within the IRISS project to formally model manufacturing processes, products and production resources. Furthermore, knowledge interpretation mechanisms are designed to match requirements of individual process steps with the offered capabilities of production resources, in order to enable an automated assignment of tasks. fortiss supports the project partners DLR and Agile Robots in the OPC-UA-based integration of system components and the connection of robot programming interfaces to a semantic knowledge base.
